We left the next morning at 6:30 AM, crossing the park road and hiking southwest through the scrubby trees. We aimed for the bottom of one of the fingers of snow extending left through the Devastated Area from the bottom of the Northeast Face. Our eventual goal was the sharp summit pinnacle crowning the center of the steep face.
