We soon set up two groups of bomb-proof snow anchors about 50 feet apart. Each group consisted of two pairs of buried and equalized pickets, one pair to anchor the 'accident rope' and the other to hold the 'phantom belay rope', to provide a margin of safety in case of a real problem with the 'accident rope'. Thus two skiers could be independently lowered into and 'rescued' from the crevasse at the same time. Here I am hanging about 40 feet down in the crevasse, looking over at a skier hanging on the other set of ropes.
