We skied uphill from Paradise to Glacier Vista at 6300 ft (1900 m), then dropped onto the lower Nisqually Glacier. Here we roped up in teams of three, for although the glacier appears smooth in places there are many crevasses hidden under the deep snowpack. We set off towards the first major group of crevasses, visible just to the left of the center of the photo.
