After resting a bit and eating some lunch at the car, we decided to drive the park road around to the south side of Lassen Peak. The road climbed steadily, crossing the snowline almost immediately. By the time we reached the parking lot at 8500 ft for the standard south side summit trail, the snowpack was 6-8 feet deep. A bulldozer had cut a traverse along the beginning of the trail, which then switchbacks to the right just beyond the trees before continuing on snow up the southeast slope to the summit (to the right beyond photo).
