Alex had already climbed the standard route a few years earlier, and since he was feeling energetic, decided to head left up a steep snow gully leading towards the upper part of Casaval Ridge (that's him climbing at lower left). I stayed with the crowd up the normal route, and we agreed to meet above Red Banks.
