I tried to shoot a multi-shot panorama of the crater using the "Stitch-Assist" mode of my Canon Powershot A50 digital camera, but the below-freezing temperatures and strong winds quickly drained the NiMH battery. I was forced to remove the battery and warm it inside my clothing several times, as even the spare battery fared no better. So the panorama just wouldn't work. This single view shows the western part of the crater rim with numerous overhanging cornices.
