There was no snow this year at the trailhead, so we started climbing with skis on our packs. We reached snow at about 7000 ft (2100 m) and began skiing uphill at the Crescent Glacier, near 8000 ft (2400 m), following a snowboard/glissade track upward. Looking up at the South Rib, there is clearly much less snow than in 1997. We could see that the long traverse back to the trailhead from the base of the Southwest Chutes would be dry and dusty, so we changed plans and decided we would ski back down the South Rib ascent route.Trip Introduction | Previous Page | Next Page
